Video Download Manager detects permitted open MP4 and supported unencrypted HLS media on compatible social and video pages. It uses active-tab playback, page context, and source metadata to help distinguish the video you are watching from advertisements, preloads, and earlier posts.
How social video detection works
- Start the video so the active media request is visible to the browser.
- Open the extension to compare the current player with recent MP4 and HLS requests.
- Review the preview, title, source, quality, duration, and format when available.
- Choose the correct quality or use Auto when the exact preference is unavailable.
Compatibility follows the video source, not only the platform
Social platforms regularly change their players and may deliver posts, advertisements, stories, and live video differently. A platform listed above is an example of where compatible open media can be detected, not a promise that every post or account will expose a downloadable source.

The extension can detect permitted open MP4 or supported unencrypted HLS media on compatible pages from services such as TikTok, Instagram, X, VK, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Dailymotion. Compatibility depends on the page and media delivery method.
Why can one post work while another post does not?
A platform can use different players and delivery methods for posts, advertisements, live video, and protected content. Detection only works when the active tab exposes a supported media request to the browser.
Does the extension bypass private accounts or access controls?
No. Video Download Manager does not bypass private-account permissions, authentication, paywalls, DRM, encryption, or platform access controls.
How do I avoid downloading an advertisement or previous post?
Start the intended video and open the extension after playback begins. Current-tab and player matching help prioritize the active media, while refreshing a long-running page clears stale page state.
Only download media you own or have permission to save. The extension does not support YouTube downloads, DRM bypassing, private-account access, paywall bypassing, or unauthorized use.
